William Faulkner, William Cuthbert Falkner (本名), 1897年9月25日から1962年7月6日は、アメリカの作家である。 20世紀で最も影響力のある作家の一人であり、1949年にノーベル文学賞を受賞しています。 彼の名声は、小説、ノヴェラ、短編小説に基づいている。 しかし、彼は詩人でもあり、また脚本家でもあった。 現在では、史上最も偉大なアメリカ人作家の一人とみなされている。

受賞歴

フォークナーは、「近代アメリカ小説への力強く芸術的にユニークな貢献」により、1949年にノーベル文学賞を受賞した。 彼はノーベル賞の賞金の一部を「新しい小説家を支援し、奨励するための基金を設立するために」寄付し、最終的にPEN/フォークナー賞の小説部門につながりました。

フォークナーは、「マイナー」とされる小説でピューリッツァー賞を2度受賞している。1954年の小説『寓話』は1955年に、1962年の小説『狩人』は1963年に死後ピューリッツァーを受賞している。 また、1951年に「Collected Stories」で、1955年に「A Fable」で再び全米図書賞を受賞しています。

1946年、フォークナーは第1回エラリー・クイーン・ミステリ誌賞の最終候補3人の一人となりました。

1987年8月3日、アメリカ合衆国郵便公社は彼に敬意を表して22セントの郵便切手を発行した。
